2012: transitions

Pulling the sheets off of Jacques' mattress this morning, I relished the ease of changing wet bed sheets when the mattress is not in a crib, or on the floor. This new year, Jacques Emidio's mattress sits atop a simple wooden bed frame, Jean-Baptiste's from when he was a little boy, and so I don't have to bend completely over to pull the corners out from under the mattress. It's a simple change, but a huge one, too.

When we first unveiled the higher up sleeping quarters, Jacques was giddy - "lit de Jacques!" he kept exclaiming, as he'd leap from it, onto the temporary landing pad we've got wedged next to it - and still is, after one week of hopping in, rolling off of, thrashing around and, ultimately, sleeping in it.

The introduction of his "big bear bed." The nights are once again turbulent, but honest and earnest. We're all trying to make nights as calm and reassuring as possible, with a pinch of rest, too. 2012 will be the year of excellent sleep!

Happy New Year!
