Return of the non-Mac

News that Burger King is returning to France after a 15 year hiatus made la une today. This quote, by Paul Fedèle, editor of snacking.fr, is making my day, “The French want greater burger diversity and they are nostalgic for the return of a brand that was taken away from them, somewhat brutally, 15 years ago.”

Do you feel the pain? I love the potential for histrionics that the departure of an American fast-food chain can incite.

This reminds me of the part in Rosecrans Baldwin's Paris, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down when he describes all his french co-workers eating MacDonald's hamburgers every day for lunch, and not from the MacDonald's close by, oh no, from the one a few streets over that made far superior burgers... hahaha.

Ha! Such a telling anecdote. I can smugly say that the only McDo I have ever consumed in France was a McFlurry, in Paris, anno 2000, at the insistence of my friend Mike. It was gooooood!
