you go, gürl!

Proving quite adorably the theory that eventually the capitalist forces will appropriate all non-mainstream trends, the Finnish Office of Tourism and the marketing agency Buzz Lemon present le blog d'Anna, Briser la glace.

The "faux blog" is ultimately commercial in intent and banks on a frequently biting humour in its various, sometimes hilarious attempts to mock Parisians into a willingness to visit Santa Land. For instance:

Wonderful.

Even more intriguing are the comments, the majority of which seem to have no idea that the content of the Anna's blog is less a personal, spontaneous collection of combating clichés about her homeland than a finely fabricated work of viral marketing. The Journal du Net marvels at the success of the marketing blog that has allowed the Finnish Office of Tourism to measure the success of its visibility campaign in site visits, out-clicks, comments, etc.

But what of the beguiled commenters who seem to have become rather attached to the plucky ambassador? Is it only a matter of time before a commenter backlash protesting the cavalier marketing ploys of the FOT and Buzz Media... and Anna? Are the masses of disillusioned, embittered Anna-lovers rioting in front of her studio really worth the increased visibility and flux of Parisian vacationers in Helsinki?
