Day trippers

The area surrounding Toulouse has a fascinating medieval history. Within a short drive's distance, castles and fortified cities abound that suggest the political power that l'Occitan once wielded. Fun time travel to be had!

On Sunday, we took a lovely drive north east of Toulouse, through the Tarn department, to visit Puycelsi. Puycelsi's castle was taken apart following the end of the Albigensian Crusade, but 800 meters of remparts remain, as well as medieval houses, chapel, and a stunning view of the surrounding Vère valley.

Fantastic! I will never tire of discovering new (to me) medieval towns - one of the greatest things about living in France :)
Very cute hat by the way!

I agree, Sara Louise -- there's nothing like walking around live medieval history! (Jacques got some compliments from the locals on the hat, too.)
